Jas Rawlinson is a Brisbane author, freelance journalist, writing coach, & mental health advocate…
Well regarded for her ethical & empathetic journalism when broaching sensitive topics, she has been endorsed by organisations such as Lifeline Hunter Valley, Headspace Cairns, Royal Flying Doctor Service, Project Karma, & Women’s Legal Service QLD.
Growing up in the quiet serenity of the mid-north NSW coast, Jas Rawlinson spent a lot of her early life exploring lush bushland, writing, and galloping through the forest on her pony ‘Buddy.’
Inspired by nature and her animals, she began writing short stories at the age of 10 (usually about horses, of course) — and it was here, that her passion for writing was ignited.
However, life was not always so simple.
As a child growing up in a home with family violence, Jas often felt alone, fearful, and uncertain.
But she knew one thing for sure: one day, she would help others so that they didn’t have to suffer the same violence alone.
In 2012, at the age of 26, she moved to QLD to pursue her creative passion for writing further, and began working around Brisbane as a photographer and writer.
Most fulfilled when tackling important social topics such as human trafficking, domestic violence & child abuse, Jas is a highly experienced magazine editor, freelance journalist, online content wizard & ghostwriter who has been published both nationally & internationally.
She has spent time in Thailand with sex trafficking survivors and undercover rescue workers, and in 2016 received national media coverage for co-founding Brisbane’s first permanent Domestic Violence Memorial.
Opened in March of that year by Brisbane’s Lord Mayor Graham Quirk, the memorial honours the men, women, and children murdered through domestic violence in Brisbane, and is inscribed with the words: ‘no more silence, no more violence.’
She is also the author of the suicide prevention book ‘Reasons To Live One More Day, Every Day.’
